Shantak bird

After reading H.P. Lovecraft "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath", I got interested on the creatures called Shantak birds. Their description, if you don't know it, tells us they are elephant-sized creatures, with horse-like heads and wings, covered in leathery scales and with huge claws on their hindlegs.

Maybe because of their equine characters, or because I remember reading they produced a hoof-clapping sound when running after the protagonist, I got that image in my head.

The "feathers" are leathery scales as the ones that cover part of its body, and the mane is made of horny filaments that radiate into hair( like primitive dinosaurian feathers).
